The last part of our day in Salem was looking for dinner. I was SO EXCITED because I had done tons of research on finding a delicious seafood place to eat at that makes lobster rolls. I found the perfect place: Lobster Shanty. Looked on yelp, awesome reviews, hours on yelp were just perfect....until we got there. Apparently yelp doesn't update hours. The Lobster Shanty was closed for the season but would be reopening the next Monday, THREE DAYS after we were there!!! I was SO upset.
We used Siri on my phone to find another seafood restaurant, and she recommended Finz.
They're a little pricy, but what do you expect from a seafood restaurant? We weren't expecting to be leaving with a check under $50, and we were right.
Heather just LOVES this picture :) I wanted to show how cute the inside of the restaurant was, what with all the twinkling lights, but it didn't turn out so well. Oh well :)
Right on the water. It was great.
This is my meal. I was SO excited to eat a lobster roll, expecting big chunks of warm lobster dripping in butter in a buttered roll. This croissant that tasted like it was from a can is not what I was expecting. My lobster was also practically creamed; and I don't know what they did to it, but it was cold; and all the stuff they put on it made it taste like tuna fish. I was not impressed.
Heather got the fishermen's stew. It had a bunch of mussels, scallops, shrimp, fish and some veggies in a fennel tomato broth with a roasted red pepper rouille. For $22.99 you'd think they could have seasoned it properly. It was okay though. That garlic bread was probably the best part :)
Trying my first scallop. Again, not very impressed. Maybe I would have been if Gordon Ramsay had cooked it. He seems to cook scallops in a lot of his dishes. Speaking of which, I'm going to make this dish of his: Pan-seared scallops with crunchy apple salad. Seems like an easy summer recipe for during the week and a bit fancier than what we normally make. And it's SUPER healthy. And apples in salads are the bomb (do people still say that?).
Overall, this restaurant is okay. Overpriced, in my opinion, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say that I just had a bad meal. I'd happily go there again and try something else. I just think next time I'm looking for a lobster roll, I'll go to a place where it's their specialty.
